Coach Scott
Summer & Winter
Season
Coach Scott has been coaching Spirit Swim Team for the past 6 summer and winter seasons. Coach Scott swam competitively from age 6 to 18. During his youth he ranked amongst the fastest swimmers in the Princemont Swim League (MD) where he still has records that are standing 25+ years later and swam for the MD Allstar Team (USA Swimming) at the Eastern Zone Championships at age 14. He was ranked top 16 in high school in the state and finished his high school swimming career with a Regional Championship Title (1st ever for Bowie High School), 1st Team All County swimming honors and was inducted into the Bowie High School Athletic Hall of Fame for swimming. He is incredibly passionate about the sport and is constantly learning new training techniques and methods to help train his swimmers to be the best they can be.
Coach Sherye
Winter Season
Sherye Nickerson is excited to return to Spirit Swim team after a 23 year hiatus. While swimming for Spirit, Sherye was part of the 15-18 record holding freestyle relay team that stood until Chesapeake College filled in the pool. She swam for St. Mary's College specializing in butterfly and the 500 yard free. Post graduation Sherye returned to the shore and swam for the TCY Mantrays a US Masters team based out of the Easton Y until 2015. In 2017 and 2018 Sherye completed Eaglemans. Finally in 2021 she started Three Fish Aquatics, LLC teaching safe swimming to children ages 6 months to adult. She holds certifi ons in Adaptative swimming working with children who have autism, cerebral palsy, and downs. Sherye is excited to meet new families, and spread the joy of competitive swimming to the team.
Coach Matt
Summer Season
Coach Matt has been around swimming all his life. He started competitive swimming at ten years old, swimming for a club team in Pennsylvania till he graduated from high School. He then swam all four years in high school serving as team captain for junior and senior year. During high school he worked at a YMCA teaching swim lessons and volunteering for the summer swim team. Matt then went to York College of PA and swam all four years serving as team captain senior year. After moving to the Eastern Shore he became the Queen Anne's County head swim coach from 2007 to 2014. During his tenure as men’s and women’s head coach they won two regional championships and a girls state championship in 2009. Coach Matt has been active with Spirit Swim Team since 2018 as a swim team parent and volunteer swim official. Coach Matt is looking forward to getting back to coaching and helping the coaching staff bring Spirit to the next level.
Coach Tom
Winter Season
Coach Tom has spent his life in and around the water. Starting out his swimming career at Annapolis Roads Swim Team and ending it up at Towson State University. Tom also spent three summers on the Ocean City Beach Patrol. From there he went on to the coaching part of swimming. His first job was as assistant coach at Severna Park YMCA and also assistant coach at TCY. From there head coach at Prospect Bay Swim team, and finally the longest stretch was head coach of Spirit Swim Team.
Coach Stephen
Jr. Coach
Coach Stephen has been a member of the Spirit Swim team since fifth grade and has been a volunteer assistant coach since 2016. Stephen swam for TCY throughout elementary, and middle school and junior year of high school. He is currently finishing his bachelors degree in biology. And, he will be pursuing his education with advanced degrees in either medicine or biochemistry. As a swimmer, he competed year round for both TCY and Spirit swim teams. Both teams imparted on him the necessary skills to be a competent and competitive swimmer. His strive for excellence and commitment, coupled with his experience are key elements in supporting swim team members with reaching their competitive swimming goals. He is looking forward to propelling Spirit into a new era of speed and excellence.
Coach Camryn
Jr. Coach
Coach Camryn has been swimming competitively since she was seven. She swam for Spirit, TCY, and Kent Island High School, where she served as co-captain senior year. She is currently swimming for D2 Kutztown University as she pursues a degree in Psychology. Her experiences from all teams have provided her with the skills needed to support other members of the swim team. Coach Camryn is looking forward to supporting our swimmers as they work to meet their goals!
